Kirby, Mattis avenues to close for fiberoptic installation

Starting Wednesday, a series of road closures will take place on Kirby, Mattis and Beardsley avenues.

According to a press release by the city of Champaign, Consolidated Communications and Gardner Excavating will close lanes on Kirby and Mattis avenues “in order to complete fiberoptic install.”

One southbound lane of Mattis Avenue between Meadow Drive and Kirby Avenue will be closed, resulting in southbound traffic being reduced to one lane.

Additionally, one eastbound lane of Kirby Avenue between Rosewood Drive and Mattis Avenue will also be closed, causing eastbound traffic to be reduced to one lane.

These road closures will end on Dec. 1.

Beardsley Avenue between McKinley and Willis avenues will be closed in order to complete a sanitary sewer connection at 1002 W. Beardsley Ave. 

Beardsley Ave will be reopened on Dec. 8.

The city of Urbana advises to pay close attention to traffic control devices and marked detours.
