The Sustaining Urbana Neighborhoods grant program will be open for grant application submissions on Tuesday in an effort from the city to bolster community development and involvement in sustainable strategies.
The SUN program, presented by the Urbana Grants Division – Community Development Services Department, provides funding to support programs, services or small-scale improvement projects to better community living and include diverse, multi-generational Urbana residents in the process of climate-related actions and strategies.
“The Urbana City Council established this new grant program to enhance climate resiliency and sustainability through small-scale projects, with a focus on Community Development Target Areas,” Mayor Diane Wolfe Marlin said in a press release.
The targeted grant amount is $10,000 per project, but the city will accept applications for larger projects on a case-by-case basis. To be eligible to receive funding through this program, applicants must be either a public or private nonprofit entity, or an individual or neighborhood group with a nonprofit sponsor.
Further information, including the application process, is provided under the City of Urbana’s program guidelines. Applications will be accepted between Sept. 3 and Nov. 4. Final awards will be announced in late November.
