Starting Sept. 9, Hessel Park will undergo a $363,823 construction project to add four ADA-compliant and 10 non-ADA parking spaces, according to a press release from the Champaign Park District.
The park currently offers two ADA and 23 non-ADA spaces. These additions will also act as a chance to restore the pavement in the area that is at “the end of its lifecycle.”
According to the Champaign Park District, these renovations will “clarify parking and vehicular circulation and improve pedestrian safety” while reflecting “the Park District’s commitment to increasing accessibility throughout the community.”
The pavilion, its parking and the U-drive will be closed until Nov. 27. Pavilion rentals will resume this January.
