Registration opened on Sept. 1 for the Countywide Residential Electronics Collection event that will take place on Oct. 11 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Parkland College.
E-waste recycling programs like CREC aim to reduce environmental pollution and human exposure to toxins that are released from improper disposal within the county.
The cities of Champaign and Urbana, Champaign County and the Village of Savoy are co-sponsoring the effort to responsibly manage household e-waste.
Residents can now sign up for a time ticket and select a 15-minute time slot at no cost to drop off electronics.
Amongst other devices like microwaves, space heaters and extension cords, the CREC is also accepting televisions, which generally have limited recycling options in Champaign County.

The event will take place regardless of the weather on the day, though the website states that residents should expect longer wait times during a thunderstorm, as there will be fewer volunteers to help unload vehicles
According to the website, residents can enter Parkland College through the Duncan Road entrance and are encouraged to carpool to the event. More information is available here.
