Aggravated assault reported on Green Street

A Campus Safety Notice from Police Chief Matt Ballinger with UIPD on Sunday morning informed University students of an aggravated assault that occurred around 6:30 a.m. on Sunday, May 26 in the 600 block of East Green Street, Champaign. 

The notice describes a vehicle approaching the victim, a pedestrian walking near Fourth and Green streets, before three offenders exited the vehicle and chased the victim. The chase continued to Fifth Street, where two more offenders began chasing the victim . 

The victim was attacked in the 600 block of East Green Street before being taken to the local hospital with non-vital injuries. 

Campus Police specified that the victim was not affiliated with the University and investigations into the incident are still ongoing. 

As of the Campus Safety Notice at 9:45 a.m., UIPD is patrolling the campus area, with the investigation ongoing.
