UPDATE — Sunday, 8:42 a.m.
A press release from the Champaign Police Department stated that one 16-year-old died last night as a result of gunshot wounds from yesterday’s shooting. The Champaign Fire Department helped responding officers to administer medical care on the scene before transporting the victim to a nearby hospital.
The fight where the shooting took place reportedly occurred in the parking lot of DICK’S House of Sport at approximately 6:14 p.m. Saturday night. The victim was pronounced dead at 11:44 p.m.
The release also stated that no arrests have been made as of this morning and that the investigation is still ongoing.

Multiple shots were fired and a person was shot at Market Place Shopping Center in Champaign, according to a police dispatch at 6:15 p.m. A dispatch at 6:16 p.m. reported there were multiple sources claiming multiple people were shot, though the number of victims is not currently clear.
Dispatchers reported the shooting occurred near DICK’S House of Sport.
By 6:20 p.m., a responding officer had described the suspect as a 14 to 15-year-old Black male wearing black Air Force 1s and black Nike sweatpants. The suspect ran southbound after the shooting, according to the officer. Officers currently have a picture of the shooter.
People present in the mall reportedly ran to the food court for shelter, according to a 6:28 p.m. dispatch. There was no active shooting in the food court at this time, according to the dispatch.
By 6:29 p.m., multiple stores in the mall began locking down with people sheltering in place inside. Police had allowed sheltering people to leave the mall by 6:40 p.m., according to police dispatch.
Police have not arrested a suspect as of 7:07 p.m. The mall is currently on lockdown, not allowing anyone to enter.
