In a press release sent Tuesday, the Champaign Police Department confirmed it had made an arrest in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred Saturday at Market Place Shopping Center.
The shooting killed a 16-year-old, who was pronounced dead hours after the incident.
In the statement, Lt. Aaron Lack wrote that a 15-year-old suspect was located and arrested in Urbana.
“The juvenile was initially taken into custody on a Warrant of Apprehension for Aggravated Battery with a Firearm,” the statement wrote. “Following the victim’s passing, the case was forwarded to the Champaign County State’s Attorney’s Office for additional charges related to the homicide.”
Because the suspect is a juvenile, CPD is unable to release further identifying information.
