Gov. JB Pritzker has appointed Dr. Bryan Traubert to the UI System Board of Trustees, according to a Monday press release. Traubert, if confirmed by the state senate, will fill the seat vacated by Patricia Brown Holmes.
A retired Chicago-based physician specializing in ophthalmology, Traubert has an extensive background in non-profit work. He currently serves as chairman of the Pritzker Traubert Foundation, which he founded with his wife, Penny Pritzker, sister of Gov. Pritzker and former secretary of commerce during the second Obama administration. Traubert is also the chair of the executive committee of the Chicago Community Trust.
Traubert graduated from the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Chicago in 1981. He is the second trustee appointed this year with a degree from UIC and the second with a career in medicine. The first, Suzet McKinney, who was appointed in March, is a professor and long-time public health professional.
Jesse Ruiz, the Board’s chairman, emphasized the value of Traubert’s diverse background in medicine.
“He will bring a wealth of experience and critical insight to the University of Illinois System in our role as the state’s largest public medical educator and one of its most important health care providers,” Ruiz said in the press release.

Traubert said he looks forward to stepping into this new role, specifically noting his commitment to working with his fellow trustees to support future generations of University students.
“I’m honored to join the University of Illinois Board of Trustees and support its mission of world-class teaching, groundbreaking research and broad public service,” Traubert said in the press release.
If confirmed, Traubert will serve through January 20, 2031.
