University Housing — in an attempt to maximize living space for incoming freshmen — sent an email earlier this month promising $2,000 and 100 complimentary meal tickets on a first-come, first-serve basis to students not required to live on-campus.
While the original deadline to accept this offer was July 22, Mari Anne Brocker Curry, Director of Housing Information and Marketing for University Housing, said that the department is still providing incentives to students willing to cancel their contracts.
“We are still providing incentives to those residents who are interested,” Brocker Curry wrote in an email.
The email added that students who are considering this offer should check with the Office of Student Financial Aid to see how their aid may be affected due to the cancellation of such a contract.
Brocker Curry added that the University has also changed the occupancy, if square footage allows, of certain dorm rooms in order to support incoming first-years who are guaranteed a place in University-owned housing.

“These changes will provide additional capacity to our halls and will allow us to provide assignments to some students with contracts who are awaiting an assignment confirmation,” Brocker Curry said. “We will continue to provide residents with updates on those options as they are available.”
All $2,000 credits distributed will be applied to the student’s University account at the beginning of the Fall semester. Those who have already volunteered to cancel their contracts in response to the department’s previous invitations to cancel will receive the reward automatically.
