Two wounded in shooting on Third Street

Shots were fired on the 200 block of John Street near the 700 block of South Third Street at around 1:30 a.m. on Saturday, leaving two 24-year-old Danville men wounded.

Both victims received non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to a local hospital, according to a statement by the Champaign Police Department.

The incident began as a result of an altercation between multiple people, which led to shots being fired, the statement said.

According to the description given to police, the shooter was reported to have run south toward John Street. Witnesses say six to seven shots were fired before police showed up.

Callers also reported seeing individuals hiding behind vehicles in the basement parking garage at Tower at Third.

No arrests have been made, and police are reviewing security camera footage as part of an ongoing investigation.

This incident was the third shooting on Green Street in under two months, with occurrences happening on July 4 and July 15.
