Rep. Nikki Budzinski held a roundtable today in East St. Louis with female veterans to discuss the health-related challenges that some former military service members face.
According to a statement from Budzinski’s office, topics included access to health care, mental health, military sexual trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder.
Budzinksi cited her background as the grandchild of World War II veterans and her role in the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs as motivation for the project. The House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs is tasked with managing the Department of Veterans Affairs and advocating for legislation to improve veterans’ benefits.
“As a member of the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, I’m committed to ensuring they have access to the benefits they’ve earned and deserve,” Budzinski said.
Budzinski also expressed gratitude for the women veterans who attended the roundtable.
