Pep rally cancelled; homecoming parade still to take place

By Whitney Blair Wyckoff

The pep rally scheduled to take place on the Quad after the homecoming parade today has been cancelled because of rain, according to a mass e-mail the University of Illinois sent to students and staff. But, the homecoming parade will still occur.

“There have been a lot of rumors flying around” about whether the parade will take place, said Vanessa Faurie, vice president of corporate communications for the University of Illinois Alumni Association.

Caroline Clark, a co-chair of the Student Alumni Ambassadors committee to plan the pep rally, said that she had worked 10 to 12 hours each week since the beginning of the school year to plan the event.

“Of course, it’s disappointing,” said Clark, junior in ACES, about the cancellation. “It’s kind of a gamble when you’re running a huge event like this.”

The parade will start at 6 p.m. on Lorando Taft Drive and Sixth Street in Champaign, wind through campus, and end on Nevada Street between Mathews and Goodwin avenues in Urbana.
