University to test emergency notification system

By Daily Illini Staff Report

The University will test its emergency notification system on Tuesday, March 1, at 10:05 a.m., according to a University of Illinois Police Department massmail.

Evaluators will monitor the speed and distribution rates of the emergency Illini-Alert system.

Email messages will be sent to all active faculty, staff members and students with Illinois.edu addresses and text messages will be sent to those who have registered their cellphone.

The Emergency Web Alert System will also trigger a pop-up box on campus websites and messages will be shared via social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter.

The test does not require any response from citizens or emergency resources, Lieutenant Todd Short said in the massmail.
