Urbana Police Department investigates attempted murder

An attempted murder took place on the 2000 block of Vawter Street in Urbana at approximately 6:26 p.m. on Tuesday, October 25.

Urbana patrol officers arrived on the scene after several residents in the area reported hearing multiple gunshots.

The officers located one victim and several shell casings on the ground.

The victim suffered a gunshot wound and was taken to a local hospital, where they were treated and released.

Urbana Police Department detectives and the Champaign County Street Crimes Task Force gathered evidence at the scene and began the investigation. They determined that the shots were fired from handguns by two shooters.

An arrest warrant was issued this afternoon for 25-year-old Kendre Quandrell Leshoure, who is an Urbana resident. According to the warrant, his bond is set at $250,000.

The second offender has not yet been identified. He is described as a black male, about 5’10” tall and about 200 pounds with a stockier build. He was wearing grey athletic clothing and was armed with a handgun.

The investigation is ongoing and the Urbana Police Department is asking the public for tips.
