ISG resumes meetings, lowers transit fee
January 18, 2018
Illinois Student Government is back in full swing as senators met for their first meeting of the spring semester.
Transportation Representative Jacob Rajlich, sophomore in Engineering, said the student transportation fee for next year will be $59, which is $3 lower than this year’s fee.
Rajlich thanked everyone who helped lower the fee, and he said every dollar counts.
Speaker of the Senate Sam LeRoy, senior in Business, said he wants to make the weekly ISG meeting run more efficiently this semester.
LeRoy said he wants senators to come up to the front of the room and use standing mics, which will allow him to keep a fair order during debate of proposals and to minimize senator repetition.
“(I want) to start offering opportunity to act as presiding officer during meetings,” LeRoy said. “I will be graduating in a few months, and whoever will be next in this forum will be prepared to run these meetings.”
Also during the meeting, Patricia Rodriquez, senior in LAS, proposed an item of business titled, “Student lobby day at the capitol.”
The proposal, which was passed, will allow students to discuss higher education issues in Springfield, Illinois. The event will take place Feb. 28.
Rodriquez said there will be a Peoria Charter bus that will hold 55 students, and the event is open to any student on campus.
The proposal will be sent to the Committee on Community and Governmental Affairs and the Committee on Financial Affairs.
