Off-campus activities for moms weekend
April 5, 2017
Whether your mom, grandma or whole family is visiting to celebrate Moms Weekend, there are many activities to partake in, both on and off campus. It’s always fun to show your visitors around the Main Quad, your favorite cafes or one of the local bars. But for an original Moms Weekend experience, try taking your loved ones to a few off-campus sights. Check out the list below for some places to visit this Moms Weekend.
Hit the town
Downtown Champaign is home to various restaurants and bars. Try some of Champaign’s original restaurants like Seven Saints, Guido’s or Big Grove Tavern. There are endless options for food all around the downtown Champaign area. After enjoying some great food, take a walk around the town. The majority of the bars and restaurants are within walking distance. You can find bakeries or ice cream parlors around Champaign too.
See local art
It can be fun to see a play on campus at the Krannert Center, but there are options to enjoy the arts off campus as well. Go see a movie at the Art Theater, a movie theater in downtown Champaign which is over 100 years old. There is also The Art Party Studio in Urbana, where you can relax, sip on wine and creatively paint with your mom.
Go shopping
Since it can be hard to take a break and treat yourself during the week, take a trip to the mall over Moms Weekend. Market Place Mall is only a five-minute drive away. The mall is filled with endless options from department stores to nail salons to electronic stores. Spend the day shopping with your mom at Market Place Mall and enjoy the atmosphere.
Enjoy the day
What better way to celebrate a spring day than taking your mom to see the beautiful nature surrounding Champaign-Urbana? A fun spot to hang out can be Crystal Lake Park in Urbana. There you can check out the Anita Purves Nature Center, Busey Woods or Crystal Lake Park Family Aquatic Center. Enjoy the beauty and nature around you while having a picnic at Crystal Lake Park.
