Weber undergoes surgery
November 16, 2004
The men’s basketball team was given the day off Monday but still managed to make headlines. Monday morning Illinois head coach Bruce Weber checked into Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana after experiencing some discomfort in his midsection late last week and over the weekend. Following a doctor’s examination Monday morning, it was determined that Weber would need an emergency appendectomy. Weber immediately underwent surgery to remove his appendix.
“He is fine now,” said assistant athletic director Kent Brown. “The surgery was successful, and he could be back home as early as tonight.”
Weber could miss a day of practice, but he is expected to be back at full strength by the end of the week. Illinois, ranked No. 5 in the nation, opens regular season play this Friday at Assembly Hall against Delaware State.
