Zook lands only QB recruit in Brewster chain reaction

By Courtney Linehan

Illinois football added another member to the Class of 2011 on Tuesday, as sources at the football office confirmed quarterback Phil Haig will play for the Illini.

Haig is a 6-foot-3-inch, 180-pound senior at Henry Sibley High School in Mendota Heights, Minn.

Recruiting Web site Rivals.com lists him as a three-star recruit and the 26th-best quarterback in his class.

Haig originally intended to sign with Minnesota but withdrew his verbal commitment when fellow quarterback Clint Brewster announced he would play for the Golden Gophers. Brewster had planned to play at Illinois but decommitted after his father, Tim Brewster, was hired as Minnesota’s head coach.

Illinois had not been one of Haig’s finalists, but he came to campus for a second look after Brewster decommitted.
