Men’s tennis takes runner-up in NCAA finals

By David Just

The Illinois men’s tennis team was unable to overcome No. 1 Georgia in the NCAA finals Tuesday afternoon.

Following a tremendous run as the lowest seed in the Final Four, the No. 10 Illini fell 4-0 to the Bulldogs, who were playing on their home court in front of a capacity crowd.

Georgia took the doubles point as they have in every match this season and took the first three singles matches to claim the title.

Junior Kevin Anderson fell 6-1, 7-6 at the hands of John Isner, the No. 1-ranked player in the country.

The undefeated Georgia team was playing in its second straight NCAA championship, ranked No. 1 both years; the Bulldogs were runners-up to Pepperdine last season.
