Team evens record against Xavier

By Steve Contorno

Illinois scored five goals and evened its record on the weekend and the season at home against Xavier on Sunday.

After scoring only once on Friday against Missouri, the Illini broke out and scored three goals in the first 13 minutes and two more in the second half. The defense posted a shutout, the 18th of goalkeeper Lindsey Carsten’s career, to clinch the 5-0 win.

Senior forward Ella Masar scored the opening goal and drew the foul that resulted in a penalty-kick goal for midfielder Marti Desjarlais. Masar was then pulled from the game with soreness in her still-injured left ankle.

Desjarlais added an assist on forward Jessica Levitt’s goal.
