Illini volleyball wins State Farm Illini Classic title

By Meghan Montemurro

The host of the State Farm Illini Classic took home the title again defeating the Creighton Blue Jays, 30-22, 17-30, 30-25, 30-22, to win 3-1. The offense, set up by All-Tournament setter Lizzie Bazzetta’s 45 assists, got on a roll in the 4th game after faltering earlier in the match.

Tournament MVP Vicki Brown finished with 16 kills and four blocks. DeBruler was also named to the All-Tournament team.

Illinois jumped out and over took a Creighton lead in the first game by stepping up their defense. The Illini faltered in game two when poor passing led to a big loss. In the final games, Illinois looked to the freshmen arms of Johannah Bangert, who finished with nine kills while hitting .421, and DeBruler to close out the win.

Illinois will have a few days off before welcoming Southern Illinois to Huff Hall on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
