Upset eludes Illini women against Indiana

The Illini came up short against the Hoosiers on the road Saturday, losing 4-3.

Illinois (8-9) started off strong, winning two of its three doubles matches. All three courts were close, as the Illini won 9-7 and 8-6 on courts one and two, respectively.

In singles, the Hoosiers (17-5) came out firing, winning three straight matches on courts two, three and six. However Illinois fired back, rattling off two victories of its own.

With the match tied 3-3, junior Shivani Dave was in a tight battle with Indiana’s Sigrid Fischer. In the end, Fischer prevailed, 6-1, 3-6, 6-3.

Next, the Illini travel to Columbus, Ohio, to take on No. 31 Ohio State. The match is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Sunday.
