Illinois recovers from Friday losses; Haig dominates in 2-0 win

By Steve Contorno

Illinois freshman pitcher Phil Haig threw 7 shutout innings allowing just two hits en route to a 2-0 win against Purdue.

Center fielder Kyle Hudson scored the game-winning run in the third inning off a Brandon Wikoff sacrifice fly.

Wickoff also drove in a run in the fifth.

Haig saw just 25 hitters and benefited from double plays in the last three innings.

Aaron Martin will start the nightcap as the Illini attempt to split the series with Purdue and sweep Saturday’s doubleheader.
