North Carolina never seemed to stand a chance at Huff Hall on Friday night, as the Illinois volleyball team soundly defeated the Tar Heels, 25-21, 25-14, 25-12.

In the first game which featured changes in scoring, with 25 points winning a set rather than 30, the Tar Heels kept the first set close. North Carolina tied the game at 16-16, but Illinois pulled away, overcoming six first set errors. The Illini never trailed in the last two sets.

Laura DeBruler led the team with 14 kills and had 15 digs. Former prized recruit Michelle Bartsch followed with nine kills in her first game. Ashley Edinger led the team on the defensive side with 15 digs.
