The Illinois volleyball team suffered its second loss of the season Friday, losing to Dayton for the second year in a row in five sets (20-25, 25-23, 20-25, 25-21, 15-8). However, Illinois rebounded a few hours later with a five-set win over Tennessee.

Against Dayton, the Illini (6-2) never recovered from an 8-2 deficit in the tie-breaking fifth set. The balanced Dayton attack of Bethany Akerhielm, Lindsay Fletemier and Nicole Bateman was too much for the Illini, totaling a combined 42 kills. Illinois’ Laura Debruler had a team-high 40 kills in the two games, while also totaling 33 digs, and Ashley Edinger notched 54 digs.
