Nittany Lions finish weekend sweep of Illini hockey

Penn State completed a weekend sweep of the Illini on Saturday with a 5-4 victory, marking the first time the Illini have lost two games in a row this season.

Penn State forward Steve Peck started the scoring off, followed by a pair of goals by forward Tim O’Brien to cap off the first period.

The Illini stormed back in the second period with four goals to tie the game, behind two power-play goals from forward Johnny Liang and two assists from team captain Jordan Pringle.

The Icers’ Luke DeLorenzo scored the game-winner eight minutes into the third period. He recorded four points in the game with two goals and two assists.

Illini goalie D.J. Kohler stopped 12 of 15 shots in the first period before being relieved by Mike Burda. Burda stopped 13 of 15 shots. Icers goalie Teddy Hume stopped 26 of 30 shots.
