Illini hockey defeats Indiana University 3-2

By Alex Paull

The Illini won the first game of their home series against Indiana University on Friday with a 3-2 victory.

Penalties came early and often for both teams, with very few conversions on the power-play. Indiana converted on two of their seven power-plays while the Illini’s power-play continued to struggle, converting only one of their 11 power-play chances.

Though the power-plays struggled, the Illini managed to come out on top with two points from forward JJ Heredia and the game-winning goal from captain Jordan Pringle in the second period.

Both goalies turned out terrific performances for their respective teams. Illini goalie Mike Burda bounced back with a strong game, stopping 20 shots, while Indiana goalie Sal Calace stopped 38 shots.

The Illini will look to sweep Indiana on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
