Women’s gymnastics solid against ranked opponents

The Illinois women’s gymnastics team strode into Ohio State ready to compete in Saturday night. The No. 15 Fighting Illini had a solid performance in the four-rotation competition.

Competing against nationally ranked No. 14 Ohio State, No. 13 Missouri, and Michigan State, the Illini took second place. Missouri beat the Illini by one point, 195.375 to 194.575.

Allison Buckley competed as an all-around competitor for the first time this season along with Melissa Fernandez who took the beam title with a score of 9.825.

A stand out in the meet was Illinois junior Nicole Cowart who took second in the all-around competition with a score of 39.175.

The quad meet will be televised by the Big Ten Network on a tape-delayed basis Saturday, Feb. 7 at noon. The ladies will have one week before traveling to Chicago for the IGI Chicago Style Invite.
