Tough loss for men’s tennis

By Alex Iniguez

In heartbreaking fashion, the No. 13 Illinois men’s tennis team dropped a close match, 4-3, to No. 8 Tennessee on Saturday night at Atkins Tennis Center in Urbana. After losing the doubles point, the Illini came out firing in singles play but eventually came up short against a feisty Vols team.

Senior Marc Spicijaric, ranked No. 101 in singles play, once again fought through a tough three-set match to Davey Sandgren, 5-7, 6-4, 7-5. Freshman Dennis Nevolo, ranked No. 41, bounced back from dehydration issues Friday to handily defeat No. 50 John-Patrick Smith, 6-2, 6-4, at the No. 1 singles position.

The Illini continue their difficult schedule Tuesday when they host No. 7 Florida.
