Hockey falls to Murtaugh, Cyclones in CSCHL play

By Alex Paull

The Illini hockey team couldn’t duplicate the success it had against Iowa State last weekend, falling to the Cyclones 6-3 on Saturday.

Although the Illini out-shot Iowa State, the bounces weren’t going their way.

The Illini converted on two of their seven power-play chances, while limiting the Cyclones to just four power-play opportunities.

Forward Matt Jennings tallied a goal in the losing effort, but the rest of the big scorers were held in check.

Forward Mike Murtaugh led the Cyclones’ scoring attack with a goal and three assists.

Illini goalie DJ Kohler lasted through the first 20 minutes and 22 seconds of the game, giving up four goals before being relieved by Mike Burda.

The Illini will play their next tournament game on Sunday at noon. Their opponent remains to be determined.
