Mike Turk wins Doc Counsilman Science Award

Illinois track and field head coach Mike Turk won the 2014 Doc Counsilman Science Award. 

The award is given to a coach that use science and technology as a key to their coaching, according to a press release from the Division of Intercolligate Athletics. The award is handed out by the United States Olympic Committee.

Turk’s success in the last year being ranked in the top 25 in both indoor and outdoor track seasons.

Turk also helped Gia Lewis-Smallwood win her third consecutive U.S. discus title last season.

Turk was also selected as Big Ten Coach of the Year this past season.
