Illini Head Coach Mike Turk's unlikely introduction to track

While always interested in coaching, Illinois Men’s Track and Field Head Coach Mike Turk did not always see the sports as his passion — and if not for a brief encounter — may have never considered it. Since taking over as head coach at Illinois in 2010, Turk has led the program to a Big Ten Championship along with other additional high marks in past NCAA Championships. Last season’s top-10 finish was the first since 1988, and for his efforts, Turk was recognized as Big Ten Coach of the Year. The Illini next weekend return to outdoor action at the Bill Cornell Invitational hosted by Southern Illinois.
