Women’s soccer head coach Janet Rayfield officially announced that a seven-day preseason camp will take place at Chanute Air Force Base – the former preseason host site for the football program’s Camp Rantoul – starting Aug. 5. The week’s entire schedule is to be released at a later date.

“We are heading to Rantoul in August with one purpose in mind – to get ready for an arduous and difficult soccer season,” Rayfield said in a statement. “We are calling it Base Camp Rantoul to symbolize the intense and focused preparation that we know we need to ascend to the places that we want to go this season.”

The season begins for Illinois on Aug. 14 as they host Notre Dame in a noon exhibition match in Champaign. The Illini finished last season 10-6-3, falling short of the NCAA Tournament after losing to eventual national champion Penn State 3-1 in the Big Ten Tournament.
