Illinois women’s basketball play against Florida Atlantic at State Farm Center in Champaign on Wednesday, after a 10-2 start, with the team’s most recent win being in the Braggin’ Rights game, against Mizzou.

Florida Atlantic is led by head coach Jennifer Sullivan. The team has an 8-1 start with their only loss being to Miami. Florida Atlantic went 5-25 last season and 1-17 in Conference USA play. Florida Atlantic has also won seven straight games entering Wednesday’s game against Illinois.

Illinois head coach Shauna Green held a press conference Tuesday, where she shared her thoughts about the season so far. Green spoke proudly of her team and the way they have handled the season, as such a new unit and facing such adversity.

“They keep pleasantly surprising me,” Green said. “These guys have continued to remain poised, confident and really just being present in the moment and taking care of the task at hand.”

Now with Green getting accustomed to coaching her team, she has noticed the hard work and determination the team displays. Green described this as “always finding an answer.” The team always tries their best to bring the game back in order to take home a win.

Green believes that there isn’t just one ace on the team, rather everyone plays a part. That trait is what makes the team one of the best defense rebound teams in the country.

“If you’re going to consistently be a top rebounding team, it has to come from multiple people.”

Illinois women’s basketball will head into tomorrow’s game against Florida Atlantic determined to take home another win after the win against Missouri last Sunday.
