Junior forward Shay Bollin entered the transfer portal Monday, according to On3Sports. Bollin is the second player from Illinois to leave, joining sophomore guard Cori Allen. The forward didn’t see the court this season due to an injury.
In the 2023-24 season, she played in 29 games and averaged 2.1 points per game. Bollin was a solid rebounder as well, grabbing just over one per game. Her 6-foot-3 frame was an advantage against taller lineups.
Losing Bollin shrinks the Illini lineup even more. They already lack height in the frontcourt. Their two centers, freshman Hayven Smith and sophomore Lety Vasconcelos, are the only true frontcourt players remaining on the roster.
Bollin began her career at Duke as a highly ranked recruit. After her freshman year, she transferred to Illinois and saw solid playing time off the bench.
Without Bollin, Illinois may turn to the portal to find more height. It could also stick with a youth movement, as multiple incoming freshmen are forwards.
