Anderson upsets Federer at Wimbledon, advances to Quarter-Finals

Former Illini Tennis player Kevin Anderson (14) defeated Novak Djokovic (1) 7-6(6), 7-6(6), 6-1, … in the round of 16 at Wimbledon

Anderson’s serving was one of the key points to his success, along with his forehand.

This is the first time that a number one seed has fallen in the round of 16 at Wimbledon since Pete Sampras lost to Roger Federer in 2001

This is the second time Anderson has defeated Djokovic. The first time was at the Miami Masters back in 2008. Djokovic had beaten Anderson four times after amassing a 4-1 record against the South African.

This is Anderson’s first time advancing to a grand slam quarter final
