After playing their first six events below the 36’30 line, the Illinois men’s golf team will travel just 90 minutes northeast of campus to compete at the Boilermaker Invitational in West Lafayette, Indiana this weekend.

The tournament will be hosted by the Purdue men’s golf team at Kampen Course. The course, designed by the late Pete Dye, is a par-72. Kampen is considered one of the toughest courses in the nation. It received a 4.5 star rating from Golf Digest and has hosted the Big Ten Championship and NCAA Championship.

The first two rounds will be played on Saturday followed by round three on Sunday. There is a high chance of rain in West Lafayette throughout the weekend, so the Illini may be in for a wet one. The temperature is expected to reach 70 degrees on Saturday, however, it is unlikely that the temperature will go above 60 degrees on Sunday.

The event will feature the most Big Ten opponents the Illini have faced so far this season, as eight conference teams will be competing. The No. 6 Illini are the highest-ranked team in the field, which includes Illinois State (121), Indiana (53), Kent State (47), Michigan State (78), Northwestern (70), Ohio State (38) and Wisconsin (64), among others. The Illini are one of three top-50 ranked teams in the field.

The Illini last competed in the Boilermaker Invitational in 2016 when Nick Hardy led the team to a first-place finish. This year the Illini have yet to finish outside of the top-five in any event.
