JP Legarte, Investigative News & Longform Editor

Hi! My name is JP Legarte, and I am a senior double majoring in Creative Writing and Science, Health, and Environmental Writing (through LAS Individual Plans of Study) with a minor in English. I started writing for The Daily Illini at the beginning of Spring 2022 as a writer for the News section, and I became the Investigative News & Longform Editor during March of that same semester. I am also the Communications and Outreach Intern for The Chicago Poetry Center, an undergraduate research assistant with Writing Across Engineering and Science on campus, and an intern with Brink Literacy Project. In addition, I am currently working toward developing a poetry book of my own and have poems previously published in various journals and magazines such as Third Iris Zine and Dead Skunk Magazine!
