Facebook captures in writing what the daily speech, thought and dress of thousands of students on this campus show: that stereotypes breed hate and ignorance no matter what the professed intention.

It is imperative to recognize that this act is not an isolated incident: it is a product of our surroundings.

Every Chief supporter needs to be a part of this conversation, as well as every other student, faculty and administrator.

We need to step back and recognize this as a systematic problem. The forum on Feb. 1 seeks to challenge the power, privilege, and oppression on this campus.

Real change will only happen when we demand it.
