On Saturday, two members of the Illinois men’s track and field team competed in last chance meets, vying for spots in the NCAA Indoor Championships. Sophomore Lesiba Masheto competed in the Iowa State Last Chance Qualifier in Ames, Iowa, while junior Nick Brown participated in the Alex Wilson Invite in South Bend, Ind.

Masheto snagged second place in the 400-meter relay with a personal best time of 46.65.

His time is the 14th best in the country, giving him a strong chance at qualifying for the championships. Brown struggled, finishing in third place in the long jump with a mark of 23’06.75″, and in eleventh place in the triple jump with a mark of 47’02.50″.

The selection for the NCAA Indoor Championships will take place on Monday, and the meet will be held next weekend in Fayetteville, Ark.
