Campus safety needs help

By Jimmy Murray

All the discussion the past few weeks regarding safety across all college campuses got me thinking of the safety I feel at our own university. Over the course of my years here I have felt unsafe increasingly each year. I feel as if one way to remedy this situation is to employ more police and place them in portions of campus that might be deemed unsafe. Not just have the police drive around in their cars, we need walking and bicycle officers in order to help assuage the assaults whether they be verbal or physical that anyone might experience themselves or be simply witnesses to while walking home down Green Street on a Friday night or walking home from the library. I feel as if the police presence is not on campus “to serve and protect” they are here to pass out drinking tickets and catch people for minor traffic violations. In order to help make this campus a little safer the police need to step it up.
