Column: News editors reflect on semester

By Kathleen Foody and Susan Kantor

Following a semester marked by two consecutive snow days, the retirement of Chief Illiniwek and athlete arrests, we were not sure what to expect as editors at the beginning of the fall. Our staff rose to the challenge of seeking out important issues both on campus and in Champaign and Urbana as well as continuing coverage from the larger issues of last spring including state higher education funding, race relations and construction. Many also broadened their coverage to include multimedia presentations in cooperation with our online staff members, which we hope will continue.

In fact, we had a difficult time choosing only a few stories to run in the semester in review edition and encourage you to visit DailyIllini.com this week and see other examples of the great work our staff has done. The articles both in print and online are examples of what we strive for every day and have made each member of the news desk proud this semester.
