Women’s cross country gets sixth at nationals

Before the women’s cross country team ever left for the National meet, I knew my next story would be about their successful finish. Coach Jeremy Rasmussen spoke about his team with confidence and a smile.

The team’s goal was to improve upon their No. 10 ranking. Being in the nation’s toughest women’s cross country conference, they wanted to make a national statement.

The best part about covering the final meets for this team was just working with positive people. From Rasmussen to the athletes, everyone knew their hard work would pay off in the “long run.”

All season, I reported on how Trent Hoerr had led the way for the men’s cross country team. Interview after interview, Hoerr knew he was one of the best runners in the country.

When I found out he had earned All-American at the National meet, I was excited for and proud of him. He had openly talked about his personal demise of his junior season, and it was great to see the success his strong work ethic brought him.
