COLUMN: Feature section writing always has something new

By Bonnie Stiernberg

My favorite story: I really liked doing the profile on Gordon Kay last semester. It was really early in the year, but I was lucky to find such an interesting person to profile. A runner-up would be the RoadTrip Nation story because it was all about self-discovery and topics really relevant to people our age.

Story that got the most reader response:

My story about Sarah VonderHaar got the most response. A few of my friends (who shall remain nameless) finally noticed I write for the DI after that one. It only took them two years.

Most interesting interview:

The interviews I did for the Electronic Theater Festival were really interesting because I knew very little about computer animation going into them. I came out with lots of information and about two hours of audio to transcribe.

Best quote:

“I love that feeling, the feeling when you’re on stage looking out and everyone’s listening to the songs that you’ve written.

It’s indescribable.

You get this high when you’re on stage, and it lasts for days. It’s beautiful.” – Sarah VonderHaar

Coolest features story you saw in the DI this semester:

I really liked Missy’s bathroom graffiti story.

I’ve always sort of wondered what motivates people to write on the walls.

Best thing about features:

Every week it’s something new with features.

One week I’m covering the Edible Book Festival, the next week I could be previewing the next big event on campus.

You never get bored.
