COLUMN: Health issues vary, affect everyone

By Brittany Abeijon

Favorite story written this semester:

Miss Bimbo

Best interview I did:

With a sexual assault nurse examiner at Carle Hospital, when I actually went to the hospital and got to see around the emergency area.

The priceless quote that will hang on my wall:

“If your mom says she loves you, check it out.”

The story I was most passionate about:

It was the SANE story because it was around the time when several sexual assaults occurred on this campus.

I wish this story would have a solution; for example, a suspect.

Moment that I loved my job:

When I saw someone reading my story in class.

Moment that I hated my job:

When that memorial story was published even though I didn’t feel comfortable going ahead without the family’s approval. The editors above me chose to do it anyway.

What I’m looking forward to covering in the fall:

Expanding issues to more hospitals like Provena and Christie Clinics and covering different issues such as dental care in C-U, mental health, drug and alcohol addictions, diets – basically issues I did not cover.

Why I chose my beat:

Health issues affect everyone, all ages, races and genders, and there is such a wide variety of issues to be covered.
