On behalf of the students of the University of Illinois, I would like to thank Attorney General Lisa Madigan for standing up for college students’ right to vote. When County Clerk Mark Shelden worked to disenfranchise students through his use of unnecessary identification requirements, the Attorney General’s office was there to protect us students by ordering him to stop his unjust requests. I hope that Attorney General Madigan’s office continues to look into Mark Shelden’s persistent use of intimidation and overzealous requirements to suppress the student vote. In a time when there has been little good done in Springfield, I am glad that we have an Attorney General who will stand up for students.
