Porn is no good

By David Ladner

Thanks for your article on pornography in the Feb. 2nd Daily Illini. I agree with what you wrote. Pornography has done nothing good for our society and has limited the potential of many people who get caught up in its addiction. I’m glad to read a message from someone who recognizes that to be the case.

I imagine that many readers will feel you are attacking their freedom to read and watch what they want. But in reality, freedom is exactly what pornography takes away. How free is a person who can’t resist visiting his/her favorite porn site? How free is a person who can’t get their homework done because they can’t put down a pornographic magazine? Worse yet, how free is the person who on their wedding night cannot be excited by their bride/groom because they are desensitized to sexuality? How free is the person whose marriage fails because they cannot get past their physical urges and develop true love for their spouse who is very much not a porn star? Freedom. I’d say the person who is really free is the person who is free of pornography.
