Groenewoud qualifies for NCAA Regional Championships

The Illinois women’s track and field team picked up a few regional qualifiers

Thursday.

Sophomore Chantelle Groenewoud competed in the Olympic Development division

of the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif. With a time of

10 minutes, 44.58 seconds, Groenewoud qualified for the NCAA Regional

Championships and finished ninth.

Junior Alecia Beckford-Stewart also competed at the Mt. SAC Relays and

participated in the heptathlon starting on Wednesday in Azusa, Calif. Beckford-

Stewart provisionally qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Championships after scoring

5,172 points.
