An open letter to the University Board of Trustees

In this 21st Century, we are still stereotyping Native Americans. I note with shame that the “Society” has planned a dance to “honor” Chief Illiniwek. It would be humorous if it were not so banal. I really think that an educational institution should be able to correct students (and I assume they are students seeking truth) who rely on emotions of alumni to continue to disrespect the the wishes of the First Nations Peoples.

We have done enough damage to the traditional ways of Native Americans without having to mimic them with our own absurd spectacles and interpretations.

Thanking you for taking steps to end this absurdity us taxpayers have to bear.
