The chief of police for the Champaign Police Department announced he will retire after almost 8 years in his position.
“It is with great joy and trepidation that I announce my intent to retire,” Robert T. Finney said. “I entered into law enforcement over 30 years ago as a civilian employee and since that time I have enjoyed working in every facet and position that law enforcement has to offer.”
Finney’s retirement is effective January 20, 2012.
The City of Champaign will begin its search immediately to replace Finney’s position. Steve Carter, Champaign city manager, said in a press release that a nationwide search will be conducted along with input from citizens, employees and local police officials. The process is expected to last over several months.
